How do I import ESRI shapefiles into AutoCAD MAPP or Land Development Desktop?

With AutoCAD MAPP or Land Development Desktop open, proceed with the following steps:

Select MAP on main menu.
Select TOOLS from MAP pull down.
Select IMPORT to open dialog box.
Navigate to DRIVE and FOLDER; select IMPORT TYPE; e.g. ESRI shapefile.
Select PROCEED
In resulting IMPORT DATA OPTIONS dialog box, click MAP DATA ELEMENTS TO LAYERS and click the PROCEED button.
ZOOM to EXTENT in AutoCAD view to insure that data has been transferred.
Select MAP on main menu.
Select TOOLS in MAP pull down.
Select IMPORT to open MAP IMPORT dialog box.
Navigate to same DRIVE and FOLDER; select IMPORT TYP; e.g. ESRI shape files
Select PROCEED.
In resulting IMPORT DATA OPTIONS dialog box, click MAP DATA ELEMENTS TO OBJECT DATA and click the PROCEED button.
Click on MAP>OBJECT DATA>EDIT OBJECT DATA.
Select object on screen to view associated attribute data.
